Crowds line up at an open house

Add another property to the foreclosure auction; President Bush’s lease on the White House will lapse in less than a year, and America is searching for a new tenant to fill the six-story, 55,000 square foot building in the heart of Washington D.C. Even in this real estate market the property will fetch a bundle.

Indeed, with Senator McCain’s ongoing ties to corporate lobbyists and Senator Obama’s record breaking fundraising through two-faced accuse and deny tactics, 2008 is looking to be a year of purchased victory.

Over the past several months, McCain has employed Charlie Black, as his chief advisor, Wayne Berman, as his national finance co-chairman, Carlos E. Bonilla, as his campaign economic advisor, and Tom Loeffler, as his co-chairman and national finance director, despite the fact that all have varying connections to energy, telephone, and pharmaceutical lobbying corporations and that McCain, himself, spent years in the Senate attempting pass stricter fundraising campaign laws. Ultimately, McCain must have realized along the way that the $90 million he has so far raised can outweigh even the most blatant hypocrisy, when it comes to courting votes.

Even as Obama attacks McCain for this, Obama himself continues to cozy-up to corporate cash, employing Teal Baker, who represented eighteen corporations this year, Brandon Hurlbut, who repeatedly accepted money from insurance and housing companies, and Jimmy Williams, who served as vice president of government affairs for the Wine & Spirits Wholesalers of America.

Looking back at the last election, President Bush raised $367 million and received just over 62 million votes, spending $5.92 per vote. Senator Kerry on the other hand, raising only $326 million, got 59 million votes, averaging $5.52 per vote. The correspondence between the discrepancy in funds and the difference in votes suggests that the White House may have been and may be no less for sale then the properties down the road from it. This year, as McCain and Obama struggle with the ethics of their funds, they should take a look back into the past and never forget how an American auction works.

“fundraising through two-faced accuse and deny tactics”

Accuse-to charge with the fault, offense, or crime
Deny-to state that (something declared or believed to be true) is not true

What does fundraising through two-faced “to charge with the fault, offense, or crime ” and “to state that (something declared or believed to be true) is not true” tactics mean?

“fundraising through two-faced accuse and deny tactics”
He accuses McCain of taking money from lobbyists, then turns around and denies the money he takes. That would be considered two-faced, would it not?
